A joint SEPA, and Aberarder Estate funded project to realign the existing River Nairn to assist in preventing future flooding issues to adjacent agricultural/estate land, whilst providing a more suitable habitat for spawning fish, flora and fauna.

The works comprised of the restoration of the Upper Nairn River along four sub-reaches through modifications to existing embankments and partial realignment of the channel.
Daily Project Management was undertaken by the Project Designers – CBEC Eco Engineering UK Ltd with further regular site inspections carried out by SEPA officials.
The project which saw McGowan Team join forces with Salix RW to undertake the works which included the innovative solution of using existing low lying marshland areas within the newly aligned river to assist in the alleviation of possible future flooding issues, all whilst creating a more desirable habitats for fish, flora, and fauna.
All works undertaken under SEPA CAR License stipulations with strict Silt pollution controls adopted throughout works, with further third party interaction with the local Fisheries Board and landowners.
