A new observatory was constructed on the existing RSPB Dubh Lochan Trail however current access to the observatory was restrictive due to ground conditions. 650 lm of access boardwalk was installed by McGowan Ltd to provide better access for greater numbers of site visitors. Designated SSSI and NNR area.
Location: RSPB Forsinard Flows
Type of works: Boardwalk Installation
Contract Value: £ 22,500
Installation of the new boardwalk went through difficult terrain i.e. Blanket peat, mollinia tussocks, and wet areas of flush with soft rush and fallax.
Project Notes:
- The boardwalk was pre-assembled off-site at McGowan depot, before being transported to site by lorries
- The individual boardwalk sections were thereafter brought onto site by helicopter to prevent unnecessary damage to adjacent flora and fauna
- A total of 650 lm of 1.2 metre wide boardwalk with 1.5 metre wide passing places was installed on site over undulating terrain
