I started McGowan Environmental Engineering on 10 June 2009.
Having studied Countryside and Construction Management in Edinburgh, I then gained valuable experience in the civil and environmental engineering sectors. I soon identified a market opportunity for a new company to deliver contracting solutions with a more sensitive, caring and considerate approach to the surrounding environments.
While the company has expanded, I still look to engage with all our employees and recognise that building relationships with individuals is vital in creating a positive company culture. From day one, the ethos and commitment has always been about quality and caring. We care passionately about safety, our clients, the environment and our workforce. The CARE Values are very much the foundation of the business.
I was born in the Highlands and brought-up in Carrbridge, just a few miles from Aviemore. My family has strong roots in the area and it is brilliant to have four other members of the family working alongside me. I am keen to support the local community and young people wherever possible and nurturing local talent is particularly important to me. We already have a strong apprenticeship scheme and I’m delighted to continue my sponsorship of Strathspey Thistle FC having previously played for club.
My passion for nature and the outdoors goes far beyond the family business. I am a keen walker and can often be found on the surrounding mountain ranges or wild swimming in some of the many beautiful lochs we have in the area. Wellness is especially important to me and I feel that a balanced diet and regular exercise goes a long way to providing a clear and positive mindset. I am a firm believer that if you look after yourself you are able to look after others.
