McGowan was the preferred contractor to install over 6,000m of 33kv High Voltage cable and fibre optic for a grid connection to Wyvis Hydro Scheme. The site conditions and terrain were extremely challenging, due to the sensitivity of the loch and the steep cross slopes.

Thanks to McGowan’s NERS accreditation, specialist equipment and experienced personnel, the cable was laid efficiently and safely. The steep cut into the hillside was restructured to create a natural landform, and all turf was replaced to prevent scour and habitat loss. Working so close to a water source for the local area meant that silt mitigation measures were a top priority, with detailed management successfully minimising silt run-off and oil spills.
