Project Notes:

  • The new bridge spans 33 metres over a 44 metre deep gorge
  • Tree Felling and removal of the existing old bridge steelwork undertaken
  • Restricted access to site, thus crane could not be used to allow the bridge steelwork to be lifted into place
  • System of rollers were adopted to push the steelwork structure across the gorge and onto the adjacent abutments
  • Timber decking and handrail feature were installed to assist in blending the bridge into its neighbouring natural surroundings
  • The bridge design, and intuitive installation methods adopted during construction received recognition and accolade at the annual Saltire Society’s Award Ceremony for Civil Engineering in 2014
